A Priceless Moment

A little girl around the age 8 or 9 came into the store looking for something to read.  At my location, we're more catered towards a different clientele than your usual Indigo.  Nonetheless, she was a rare gem out of a bed of rocks.  She had an adorable smile and she was so enthused to find something to read.  She asked for Geronimo Stilton and Judy Blume books and books of all sorts.  You can tell she had a really bright mind.  It has been awhile since I've met a young customer who had such a thirst for books.  Everytime I asked her opinion on something, she beamed a really sweet smile and answered shyly.  She reminded of the innocence that still existed in kids.  She also reminded me of the good things in life and not everything is politicized.  But moreover, she reminded me of how childhood is something that should be treasured whether you are a parent or not.  Her good heart and smart nature made my day.  Thank you, I really needed that.

The lyrics of the song sing to me like a gentle teardrop trickling down my face.  It speaks to me so clearly that every word is a painting more masterful than Monet's Waterlillies.  Surrealism makes way for modernity.

2006

As we began a new year, people tend to make resolutions to better themselves, to better their lifestyles, to better their mind and body.  However, it is easy to sway from our resolutions as the year progresses and eventually, we're back at ground zero by the end of the year.  I think it's great how people have the mindset to improve, but we must walk the walk as well as talk the talk.

Ever since I've begun to work at Mount Sinai hospital, I've been seeing things a bit differently.  I have adopted this urge, this philanthropic essence to help people.  I'm not saying I didn't want to help people before, but working inside the hospital has opened my eyes a little.  I've learned to feel the pain of others like cancer patients and family members of patients.  As part of my job, I deliver flower arrangements to patients in the hospital.  Sometimes, this would require me to deliver flowers and gifts to patients in the oncology ward.  It's really sad to see how people have to suffer so much pain.  This one lady, I found her sitting by her bed staring out at the window at the falling snow, she was so sombre.  But soon as I entered her room with some flowers, a small token from her family made her day that much brighter.  She was such a nice lady, it was so sad to see her suffer.  But this story taught me as I have learned many times before that even a small deed can brighten someone's day that much more.  This was my moment of clarity.

For my resolution this year, I want to make the people around me feel special, and I want to make people in general feel good about themselves.  There is so much negativity and suffering in this world already, if I can just do one small thing a day like deliver flowers, or say hi to a homeless person just to let them know they are a person too would make me feel like I have accomplished something.  I want to feel as though I am making a difference in the world and this is where I am going to start.  I am determined to contribute more to the greater good of society because there aren't enough people in this world who does.  I am finally beginning to understand the purpose of life.  Everyone deserves to live the same way as me, no one deserves to suffer.  Bono is a great role model everyone should learn from, he is a true champion to the human race, he is a great man.

This is one resolution I vow to keep going for not only this year, but for every year...cheers to a 2006 that is above and beyond.  What's your New Year's resolution(s)?

So I was in china town today walking around trying to find a cheap mop and bucket.  I went into one of the many hardware stores which is just like a dollar store.  There, I decided to use my expert CANTONESE skills to try and bargain for a major discount....the following conversation ensued:

Me: "Waaa....how much ah?"

Owner: "You wanta buckit ah?"

Me: "Hei ya...gei daw chin la?" (how much?)

Owner: "Waaaa, lei sic joan mun le?" (you speak cantonese?)

Me: "Hei la, aw hei hong kong chut sei ah" (i was born in hk)

Owner: "Aiya, ho yea ah...okay okay, aw bei lei BEST PRICE....4 dolla" (I shit you not, he said that)

Me: "Waaaaaa......ho pang ah!" (So cheap!)

Owner: "Ho giang ah!" (good quality!)

Me: "Umm....aw do yiu yut gaw mop ah" (I need a mop too)

Owner: "okay okay, mo mun tai, leung yung......okay, SOP MUN.....HO PANG AH!!!!" (okay, no problem, 10 DOLLARS!!!!!! SO CHEAP!!!!) ....at this point, he's screaming with excitement that I'm actually gonna pay

Me: "Okay okay, deem, sop mun la!" (okay, done, 10 bucks it is)

and then he just went on about......how he's glad to see a chinese kid is independent.....talk about russell peters....that was pretty funny...

There she is, the most gorgeous woman on this planet...sigh...what a perfect woman!  Life goal number 2: marry her!

Over the weekend, we went to visit White Castle in Michigan.  I love the MIchigan accent, the manager at the drive-in was so awesome.  She was so courteous and professional.  As for the burgers, the little itty bitty burgers, Jon and I downed them Harold style.  I scarfed down 11 burgers and he wofled down 10.  It was disgusting, I'll never do it again...

I ain't sayin she's a gold digger...but she ain't messin wit no broke niggaz...
